After giving players a week to speculate, the announcement trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 is finally here. True to the teaser, Mortal Kombat goes back to the beginning, but this new dawn continues the story laid out after Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath's epic conclusion. The Fire God Liu Kang's new world is thriving with its hero Kung Lao, or so it seems until fatalities strike.

The trailer highlights returning rivalries with Scorpion, Sub Zero, Kitana, and Mileena. This time, they may form new alliances to face a familiar foe, the devious and deadly Shang Tsung, who returns as a pre-order bonus character. Perhaps the most surprising detail from the trailer is that Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19, 2023.

Longtime fans of the franchise will likely adore this new trailer with its incredible presentation and promises of a new fighting system, game modes, finishing moves, and more. The future of Mortal Kombat looks bright. Fair warning to those about to check out the trailer, while Mortal Kombat has always been known for its graphic and over-the-top violence, this trailer has a ton of it in high fidelity.

NetherRealm Studios also launched a new website for Mortal Kombat 1 that shares info on the game. It includes an FAQ highlighting pre-order bonuses, various editions, the new Kameo Fighter mechanic, and more. For those wondering, Mortal Kombat 1 launches with rollback netcode at launch.

Players can experience Mortal Kombat 1 early in a few ways. First, players who pre-order the game get access to the MK1 beta in August. Players who purchase either the Premium Edition or the Kollector’s Edition get to play the game starting on September 14, 2023.

We can't wait to dive into MK1 later this year. Keep the hype going, and join us in giving Mortal Kombat 11 a proper sendoff at Evo 2023 this summer! Sign up to compete and prove you're the mightiest warrior in all the realms!
