The Evo Showcase FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves event was the first time the full roster was available to high level players and we are able to put that on full display with a unique team format. Character reveals, information for the future of the game and franchise from the dev team, and some insane matches, let’s break it all down!
The Final Character Reveal
The showcase kicked off with the reveal of the final character joining the base roster of the game. Making his first appearance since the original Garou in 1999, Hokutomaru returns to the fray. We then got to speak with the dev team on the development and evolution of the character and what they hope he will bring to the game. While his design retains the essence of the original, Hokutomaru’s new character model is sleek, sharp, and more detailed than ever before. His playful demeanor is still intact, but his movements now carry more weight, reflecting the maturity that he’s gained over the years. His costume, once a simple ninja outfit, has been updated to reflect his growth as a fighter, featuring more advanced armor and accessories that hint at his journey since his last appearance.
A Fan Favorite Game Mode Returns
That wasn’t the only surprise the dev team brought to the showcase. They also announced that Two-Lane Battle Mode would be making its return as well.
This iconic mechanic, first introduced in Fatal Fury in 1991, was a fan-favorite and a staple of the series for many years. The mode allows players to switch between two parallel lanes in the middle of a fight — one in the foreground and one in the background — creating an additional layer of strategy and depth to every match.
Team Event with some of the FGC’s brightest stars.
With the news and information out to the public, the stage was now set for the exhibition tournament between Team MenaRD and Team ET. However first both captains needed to select their teams. MenaRD took the coin flip match and won the right to the first pick.
The teams ended up as follows:
And we were underway. Both teams played out their normal matches and ended the first wave tied at 2-2. Then we went to the viewer voted matchups where the fans watching from home voted on the matches they wanted to see next. In a back and forth exhibition, Team ET came out on top with a match score of 5-3.
