The Evo Awards once again brought the fighting game community together for a night that celebrated not just competition, but the culture that surrounds it. From unforgettable matches to iconic personalities, breakout creators to legendary veterans, the evening highlighted everything that makes the FGC one of the most passionate communities in esports.

Invincible VS Exhibition: A First Look at a Future Contender
The Invincible VS exhibition brought together a mix of veterans and rising talent, including Justin Wong, IFCYipes, Cloud805, and Grr, offering an early look at how the game plays at a high level. Justin Wong’s patient, spacing-heavy approach helped him overcome Cloud805’s aggressive style, while Grr dominated his side of the bracket with strong control and relentless pressure, advancing to Grand Finals without dropping a game.
In the final set, Grr’s momentum-driven team clashed with Justin’s more measured composition in the closest match of the night. Justin slowed the pace and adapted, but Grr capitalized on key openings with clean execution and smart tag usage, securing a 2–1 victory and establishing himself as an early standout in Invincible VS.

Evo Hall of Fame Expands
Three pillars of the fighting game community were welcomed into the Evo Hall of Fame: Ryan Hart, Mike Watson, and Shinya “Nuki” Onuki.
Each inductee represents a different era and region of the FGC. Ryan Hart, one of Europe’s most decorated competitors, was recognized for his dominance across multiple titles and his role in putting the European scene on the international map. Mike Watson, a foundational figure of the early U.S. arcade era, was celebrated for both his competitive success and his lasting influence on West Coast fighting game culture. Shinya Onuki, a legend from Japan, was honored for his mastery of classic titles and his contributions to the depth and evolution of high-level play.
Together, their inductions served as a reminder that today’s global, interconnected FGC was built on decades of rivalry, innovation, and community, much of it shaped by players like Hart, Watson, and Onuki.
