At the largest MARVEL vs. CAPCOM 2 tournament of all time, Khaos reigned supreme. The American stood tall atop the over 500 players who entered, taking the crown without dropping a single set. Khaos became the first MvC2 Evo Champion since Justin Wong won the last time it was a main game in 2010.
Khaos didn't drop a game until Top 24, but he was pushed to the limit routinely throughout the rest of the bracket. He took out Dave Blaine and Gconceptz both with 2-1 set counts to claim his spot on the finals stage. Peruchamp pushed him to a final game once again in Winners Semis. Khaos then took out Servbot 3-0 in Winners Finals, and closed out the tournament with his 10th straight set win, finally stopping VIGGA's Juggernaut-esque losers run with a 3-2 victory.
VIGGA's loss to Servbot in Top 24 activated a monster. He proceeded to rattle off six straight wins, taking out Ducvader, Telly, Peruchamp, Combo Fiend, and finally winning the runback over Servbot to reach Grand Finals. Despite a valiant effort, the run ended there, but VIGGA will take home 2nd place and his first Evo medal as a reward for one of the strongest Losers runs of the entire weekend.
Servbot has been one of the most active players in the offline MvC2 scene in recent years, finishing Top 3 at multiple Texas Showdowns and Evo Community Tournaments this decade. He rolled through Winners bracket all the way to finals, only dropping a game to VIGGA. He then won 2-0 over Clockw0rk to make yet another Top 3. He couldn't keep it going from there, falling 3-0 to Khaos in Winners Finals and 3-2 in the runback against VIGGA in Losers Finals, but his incredible run through Winners earned a third place finish.
There were more than a few new faces making waves in this bracket, and understandably so given the 15 years since the game had last appeared on Evo's main lineup. Then there was Combo Fiend, taking a break from working on the 2XKO development team to take names in the Evo MvC2 bracket just like the old days. Despite falling to Losers early against VIGGA, Combo Fiend won his next three sets to reach the Evo Finals stage for the eighth time in his career and the first time in 12 years. He kept it going in Top 8 Losers, taking out Gconceptz and Clockw0rk before falling to VIGGA for a second time to bow out at 4th place.
Peruchamp was nearly untouchable in the run up to Top 8, dropping just one single game to Pauwow29 en route to Winners Semis. He couldn't keep it going in Top 8, though, as he fell 2-1 to Khaos in Winners Semis and 2-1 to VIGGA in Losers Quarters. Still, he did Peru and South America proud, and will return home with his first Evo medal for his efforts.
It took five sets before anybody was finally able to draw blood against Clockw0rk. Both Telly and Magnus took a game against him in Top 24, but they couldn't take the set as Clockw0rk paved his way into Top 8 on Winners side. He couldn't keep the momentum up in the final bracket, falling 2-0 to both Servbot and Combo Fiend to bow out at 5th. The 2XKO developer will take home his third Evo medal, and his first since taking 3rd in MvC2 at Evo 2010.
Gconceptz started the bracket out on fire, dropping just one game en route to a spot in Top 24 Winners side. After dropping to Losers 2-1 against Khaos, Gconceptz bounced back with a 2-0 over Sendo_92. He was able to take the first game against Combo Fiend in Top 8, but couldn't close it out, falling at 7th place. After nearly 25 years in the FGC, gconceptz will take home his first Evo medal for his efforts.
Telly dropped just two games on his way to Top 24, taking out SmoothViper and Magneto-x Chris C. on the way. After falling 2-1 to Clockwork in Top 24, he recovered with a clean 2-0 over Lazyreaper808 to reach the finals and earn an Evo medal. He was shut down by VIGGA in the first round of Top 8, ending his run at 7th place.
