Evo Awards 2026: Invincible VS Steals the Show

ARTICLE BY Chris Okamura

There are moments at Evo that feel bigger than competition, moments where the fighting game community gets a glimpse of what’s next. At the 2026 Evo Awards, Invincible VS didn’t just show up, it took over the stage.

A Clash of Legends

The exhibition brought together a mix of icons and rising talent: Justin Wong, IFCYipes, Cloud805, and Grr. Each stepped onto the Evo stage not just to compete, but to explore what Invincible VS could become in the hands of the world’s best.

Cloud805 and Justin Wong opened the bracket with a contrast in styles. Cloud’s aggressive team compositions pushed forward, while Justin relied on spacing, patience, and the kind of decision-making that has defined his legendary career. Justin advanced cleanly, but not without showing just how dangerous Invincible VS becomes when momentum swings. On the other side, IFCYipes brought his signature energy into the match against Grr, piloting a team built around Thula and Battle Beast. But Grr’s control of space and relentless pressure proved too much. With Bulletproof and Monster Girl anchoring his squad, he powered through the set and into Grand Finals without dropping a game.

The final match of the night brought together two very different approaches to the game.

Grr’s team, Bulletproof, Invincible, and Monster Girl, thrived on pressure and momentum. Justin Wong countered with a balanced composition of Invincible, Battle Beast, and Atom Eve, looking to control the pace and capitalize on openings.

What followed was the closest set of the exhibition.

Justin adapted quickly, slowing the pace and forcing Grr into more deliberate engagements. But Invincible VS rewards commitment, and when Grr found his openings, he made them count. Clean conversions, smart tag usage, and overwhelming offense pushed him over the edge in a 2-1 victory, securing first place and making an early statement in the game’s competitive landscape.

When the Show Stopped

The lights dimmed. The stage shifted. And then, just outside the venue, the Project: Cryo container revealed it’s contents!

From within it emerged Conquest, the final character for the launch roster of Invincible VS!

Eighteen fighters, pulled from across the Invincible universe, now form the foundation of the game, ranging from heroes like Invincible and Atom Eve to heavy hitters like Omni-Man and Battle Beast.

Conquest himself fits right into that brutality. Designed as a relentless “Striker,” he brings armored attacks, oppressive offense, and a presence that forces opponents to react or get run over. Hands-On Is Right Around the Corner

Players won’t have to wait long to experience the game for themselves.

An open beta is set for April 9 - 11, featuring multiple modes including Tutorial, Practice, and Ranked. It’s a focused slice of the full game, but one that already shows how much depth lies beneath the surface.

The top 20 players on the Ranked Leaderboard at the end of Open Beta will have their names etched into the Invincible VS end credits, forever cemented as Beta Beasts. Even better, anyone who participates will walk away with a bonus Omni-Man skin, an early badge of honor for those jumping in from day one.

A Future Already Taking Shape

The announcements didn’t stop there. Looking beyond launch, the developers confirmed the first wave of DLC characters, Universa and The Immortal, arriving in Summer 2026, with more to follow.

It was a clear signal: Invincible VS isn’t just arriving. It’s planning to stay.

More Than an Exhibition

By the time the night wrapped, Invincible VS had done more than showcase gameplay. It told a story.

A story of a new fighting game finding its footing in front of the FGC.

A story of veterans like Justin Wong adapting to something new.

And a story of players like Grr stepping up and making their mark early.

The official launch might be set for April 30, 2026,but if Evo Awards 2026 was any indication, the fight has already begun.
