Celebrating 25 years of fighting game legacy with more than 25 different events and over 1,200 total competitors, Texas Showdown 2026 left orbit from Houston last weekend—etching a few new names into the FGC’s history books on the way out.
While it isn’t the biggest or most high profile event for every fighting game, the Texas Showdown team always makes the tournament into a hotspot for players to compete in main brackets for modern and classic games of all sizes. Everything from 2XKO to Street Fighter Alpha 2 was on the menu this year, with some fun storylines to follow for some of the big ticket items.
Duos on the Rise in 2XKO
Before 2XKO was even released, one of the most important discussions about the game centered on if there would be a large disparity between players deciding to compete on their own using two characters or teaming up with a partner to tackle the game’s mechanics together. Now, one of the biggest early 2XKO events of the year saw SonicFox and INZEM showing that both methods are valid.
Across the top of the bracket, Sonic and INZEM were the only to make the cut, but they certainly made a statement with their performance as the only duo. The pair only dropped two games on their way to winning the entire event, both to bleed in Winners Finals and Grand Finals in a pair of 3-1 wins, respectively.

This win comes just over two months after Sonic and INZEM entered Frosty Faustings XVIII as a team, winning the Duos event and placing fifth overall in the regular bracket, losing 0-2 to Globo. However, they did get revenge on Globo at Texas Showdown with a 2-0 sweep in the semifinals.
“I’m so glad we proved today the effectiveness of Duo. It took real blood, sweat, and tears to get to this moment, and I wanted to show the world why I think Duo will become meta long term,” SonicFox said after winning. “I’m genuinely so happy!”
Sonic went on to say that they hope to see more players adopt duo play and Riot Games incorporate more duo-specific options as 2XKO evolves. As of now, they note that only Teemo and Jinx feel like they are “noticeably different characters when played as a Duo,” and that putting a focus on those differences in duo playstyles compared to solo options would do a lot to potentially persuade more players to enter events as pairs.
This win for Sonic and INZEM is one of the highest profile duos wins in 2XKO since the game’s launch in October, with only four different pairs having won main bracket events playing duos— those being Leffen and Supernoon at R.I.S.C. 2025, Diaphone and K7 Showoff at Midwest Mixfest 2025, and Haru and Toshi in the first 2XKO Japan Series 2026 Cup.
Diaphone also won the $10,000 2XKO bracket at PAX East this weekend while Texas Showdown was going down.

Texas holding it down in TEKKEN 8
Paragon has had some players on a roll over the last few weeks and a long-time Texas competitor held it down for the state in TEKKEN 8, with JoeCrush winning a thrilling final series over Saint to finally grab a Texas Showdown title.

Joe has been a constant presence in TEKKEN since T7, competing in a spread of online and offline events since popping up in 2019. That includes several showings at Texas events, such as multiple top four finishes at past Texas Showdowns, though his path to finally grabbing the T8 title took a year longer than his previous record predicted.
In the first iteration of Texas Showdown to feature TEKKEN 8 after its release in January 2024, Joe finished second to Obscure. Fast forward a year and, despite seeing some solid success at other events, Joe fell to E1P1C, exiting Texas Showdown 2025 in a tie for 13th. Now, another year later, he finally lifted a trophy at the event, rebounding to beat Saint 3-2 after a tight bracket reset in a Jack-8 ditto.
“I’m finally a TX Showdown Champion! I love the TX FGC so much and this event really felt like a family reunion…” JoeCrush said. “I’m grateful for everyone of y’all that supported me this weekend, we really created a treasure trove of memories and I’ll cherish every single one of them…”

He joins his Paragon teammate Jack as a recent champion, following the Guilty Gear player’s big win at the ARC World Tour 2025-26 Finals.
A stealthy return in Street Fighter 6
Nico "Stealth" Sutton has been an on-and-off performer in Street Fighter 6, returning to the game in a major way in 2025 with a seventh place finish at Frosty Faustings XVII and third place exit at Texas Showdown 2025. Heading into this year’s Texas Showdown, he had already improved on last year’s marks with a third place run at Frosty Faustings XVIII.
Keeping with that energy, the JP player cleaned house through the upper bracket, beating KINGMAN and Dudesickle06 twice to grab the win.

In some cases, that spread extends to games in different franchises, even if most cases involve runs through old Capcom games.
Silentscope finished second in Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Super Street Fighter II Turbo while Bas won both Capcom vs. SNK brackets, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and placed second in Alpha 2. In one of the most extreme examples, Hokuto finished first in Street Fighter II Turbo and Street Fighter Alpha 2, second in Street Fighter Alpha 3, and took 17th in FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves too.
Thank you @Texas_Showdown!! Always a blast every year!!
