It is hard to believe that Evo Japan 2023 is over! Since we announced the event’s return at Evo 2022, we’ve been working hard with the Evo Japan team to make its comeback something to remember.

Announcement:
An online beta test for Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising begins in May for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Siegfried was also briefly shown after being announced as the latest character to get added to the roster. Expect more news soon as Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising releases later this year.

One of the most exciting things about the Virtua Fighter esports tournament at Evo Japan 2023 was seeing so many new players join in on a game with so much legacy. Releasing in 2006 and finding new life in 2021 with the Ultimate Showdown update, this game can reach even more players than ever. Don’t just take our word for it. Announcements:

The King of Fighters XV DLC character Kim Kaphwan became available to purchase on April 4, 2023, and Sylvie Paula Paula will join the roster later this summer. Goenitz will be included as a free character later in the summer. Afterward, Najd will join the battle with a more specific date to come soon. An open beta test for the title’s online crossplay features will begin sometime this spring. 

The King of Fighters XIII Global Match releases on PS4 and Nintendo Switch with revamped online features like rollback netcode. The New Garou Mark of the Wolves features Andy Bogard, Terry Bogard, and Joe Higashi. Not to be left out of the excitement, the Samurai Shodown rollback netcode update will release this spring.

Before Evo Japan 2023 kicked off, Arc System Works announced Bedman? would join Guilty Gear -Strive- as the second season’s third character. Announcements:

Bandai Namco Entertainment released not just one, but TWO TEKKEN 8 Character Trailers. Leroy Smith, the TEKKEN 7 newcomer, returns to TEKKEN 8 with his trusty pup and well-trained fists that can swiftly attack any opponent in a flurry of controlled strikes.

The “Spirited Peacemaker” Asuka Kazama is ready for the next battle in TEKKEN 8. She joins the roster with a new style, and her attacks look more devastating than ever. Take a look at her latest character trailer below.

There are also two upcoming TEKKEN 8 Alpha tests coming soon! The MIXUP and COMBO BREAKER will have preview versions of the game available for attendees to play. Stay tuned to the TEKKEN social media channels for more info!

With Street Fighter 6 right around the corner, Evo Japan 2023 closes another chapter for Street Fighter V: Champion Edition. Rewinding to the beginning of Evo Japan 2023, Sherry Nhan shared her thoughts on this being the last Evo Japan tournament to feature Street Fighter V.

While Evo Japan might be over, we are only just getting started. Evo returns with Evo 2023: August 4-6, 2023, at the Mandalay Bay Casino and Resort. There’s more excitement to come with big announcements and fun things to do at the convention.
